Slightly higher west of the Rockies

I wonder how many people even remember that tag line at the end of commercials any more?  We are headed to Rocky Mountain National Park, where I am reliably told we do not have cell service, much less a wifi connection, so I am posting this early in the morning as we depart Colorado Springs and head north.  We will be in RMNP for two days 'roughing it' and will catch up with you all somewhere in Wyoming on Thursday.  If I get lucky and can post a couple of pictures via cell phone on our way in and out, I will.

In the meantime here is today's jewel of irony.  As some of you may recall from our last visit here at USAFA, there is a train track, a busy track, very close by.  Apparently the engineers must (as in are required) blow the horn every fifteen seconds when passing through the academy grounds to warn the wildlife to get off the tracks.  Last night we had a steady stream of trains through from around supper time including at least six from midnight to 6 am.  (Who needs an alarm clock when you have trains like this, right?). But since about 6:30 this morning, NOTHING.  Thank goodness for earplugs.

  1. That is a lot of horn blowing. Yuck. Yes, thank goodness for earplugs. If your travels take you through Lander Wyoming, wave to my cousins. Great breakfasts at the Maverick Cafe. Also, you must see Sinks Canyon south on state hwy 131. Popo Agie river flows on the right side of the road and then goes into a big hole in the side of the mountain and reappears on the left side of the highway. People have fallen in and never reappeared. Quite interesting. There is a visitor center. Here is a link to the park. Just a suggestion....for all I know, y'all have seen all of this before.
