Silverton

We drove up the road 30 minutes to Silverton, over two mountain passes. Had a great time, did a little shopping actually and bought two out-of-season shirts for next summer along with half-priced Tevas. I thought that I had taken more pictures, but they were on Tom's camera and not my phone. So these
are all I have just now.

And now, we are headed home. A quick drive down the road and we are back in the land of 75 degree days and blooming apple and pear trees.

Well, Phooey

I have a lovely post full of pictures all ready to go....and no wifi to upload pictures with. So it will have to be published later.

Funny peculiar aside...we have had five fire alarms go off thus far, 2:30 am and 4 am our second night, 2 pm yesterday, 7 pm yesterday and 8 am this morning. The entire building alarms and there is a flashing strobe light in every condo with a VERY loud whaaa-whaaa siren. We assume it is a short circuit or faulty sensor somewhere, and management is having no luck in isolating it. We no longer go outside, just check for actual smoke or flames and then cover our ears until it resets in three minutes. Which seems like forever. Even the dog doesn't get upset anymore.

The Condo and the Slopes

We are staying with friends, who work for a family-owned business, and the business owns a lovely slopeside condo at Purgatory. The Condo is about 4500 square feet, four bedroom, five bathroom, media room, laundry, huge well-equipped kitchen, family room, deck with hot tub and personal decks off four bedrooms facing the slopes. It is magnificent. And pictures are worth a thousand words, so here we go.

The mud room with ski lockers

The view out from the living room to the main deck.

Tom in the living room, the entry is behind him, the kitchen and dining room are to the left.

This is our bedroom, and while it is the smallest of the three, it still has a full ensuite bath. The top photo is the entry and the bottom is from the patio.

And this is our patio.

The guys enjoying the hot tub.

Us in the kitchen.

Angel the dog.

This morning we drove to Silverton... and I will try to post that adventure tomorrow.

A Short Trip to Purgatory

No, not THAT one...the skiing one. We have some long time friends from our days back in Kingsville, Texas. The husband worksfor a company that has a condo just north of Durango, Colorado. The condo is at the former Durango Mountain Resort, which has recently reverted to its original name of Purgatory Ski Mountain. Today is actually Wednesday, and our adventure started on Sunday, so I have a little bit of catching up to do.

Driving up, we got all the way to Durango without any precipitation of note. Made a quick stop at the grocery store, connected up with our friends and then we headed further up the highway for the 30 minute drive to Purgatory. That's when the real weather started; by the time we got to the condo everything was snow-covered and slippery but looked beautiful.

Our hosts for the week are Anne and Mike Z., whom we met back in the USMC days. Mike and Anne were both in the Navy, Anne was a jet pilot and instructor in the same squadron as Tom. Yes, she was an early pioneer, in fact, she was the 33rd female naval aviator ever. About the time Tom retired from the Marines, Mike and Anne decided it was time to start their family, so they left the Navy and started a bed and breakfast inn in Eastland, Texas. They are a terrific, fun couple, as you might guess from their picture:

We are having a great time up here. The sun came out the next day, as you can see from the photo, and I will share some pictures of the condo and our skiers in my next post.
