I know, 35 doesn’t sound as good as 80 days, but yep, that’s what we are going to be doing. Circumnavigating the globe by plane, ship, train, bus, taxi and Uber. For some reason, I just happened to look at the map and realized we aren’t doing a typical fly-there-and-fly-back-the-other-way trip.
We’re going west, all the way around. Albuquerque to Dallas, Dallas to Tokyo, Tokyo to Singapore (where we get to rest up a few days after 23 hours of flying) then board the ship, sail west to India, Africa, Europe-with appropriate port stops along the way-and then a few days in Rome and then fly to Chicago and then home to Albuquerque. I’m trying to think if we have ever done this all the way around trip before, but I don’t think we have. So, this is a new first for us! And we didn’t even plan it that way, LOL.
Packing is nearly done. Meaning I am packed a week early, with only the last minute charger cables and pill dispenser to add to the carry on bag. And Tom has separated out some of the clothes he will eventually take, is mulling over the rest, and hasn’t yet figured what that will be or how it will fit in the suitcase. He’ll pack the day before we leave and we will both dash back and forth to the laundry room doing last minute washing and mending and looking for just recalled items we really (don’t) need. UPDATE: After I wrote the above, Tom went into the bedroom and packed his clothes. And I sewed on three loose buttons he found on his tux. All that is left now is the gadgets and stuff we actually will be using between now and departure.
Like the travel pillows. Tom found his in the travel supplies the other day and tossed it onto the growing pile of ‘things to pack’. That’s when I remembered that mine blew out on our flight home from Barcelona last April. ‘Ah well’, I said, ‘I don’t really need one, I can just wad up my jacket and the blanket’.
But then today I got to thinking, maybe I do want one, after all. It is two really long flights to get there. So of course I looked to see what was available on Amazon and had Prime two day delivery. I clicked on the most likely option to read its ‘features’ and noticed an outlined box at the top of the page informing me that “You ordered this on April 17, 2018”. I did? I did! And then I promptly forgot all about it. Til now. I put down the iPad, walked right into the bedroom, yanked out the drawer with scarves and wallets and gloves and immediately saw the same little blue bag from the Amazon picture. My new forgotten travel pillow, right where it should be.
I’m not sure if I should be embarrassed I forgot both that I blew out my old pillow and replaced it, or if I should just be happy that I found the new forgotten pillow. I’ve decided I’m going with the latter.
