Have you been doing this?

Don't know about the rest of you, but we have been tuning in to the nightly TV broadcast from Sochi, plus watching a few obscure events on live streaming.  Like curling. I have come to the conclusion that curling is really just bocce ball on ice. Plus they get to use assistants with brooms. I think the dog would like to be an assistant on the bocce ball court, but I'm not too sure how he would do with the broom.  Not sure why I like watching this sport, I certainly don't understand the nuances, but the scoring is exactly like bocce.

I also am fascinated with the media hype over certain individuals who were expected to be big stars, signed major endorsement contracts, but then don't live up to the expectations. Suddenly the commercials with these people are nowhere to be seen. I feel so sorry for them for not getting the expected gold medal but I feel even worse that they suddenly lost their income, too.

On a happier note I am tickled that there are some unexpected young superstars who have won the gold medal against all odds or expectations.  And I am quite enamored with the death wish sport of snowboard cross.  Take bunch of 20-something's, fill 'em up with caffeine, throw them on a snow covered backside of an alley on a hill, and watch them scrape and scramble their way down to the bottom of the pile.  Not one heat where all starters finish, and some of the survivors only manage to make it to the next round by falling down and sliding across the finish line.

So, have you been watching this, too?  What is your favorite part of the spectacle?

  1. I have not been watching the Olympics but have read some of the reports online. In the past, my favorite sport was Figure Skating. I used to ice skate when I was younger - certainly not as well or as skilled as the Olympic skaters.
